We pulled into Wildwood Lakes Campground with the intention of staying one week. It was near to where our grandchildren live and it had good ratings. We left after one day.

This campground has a large population of semi permanent residents who we soon learned flaunted the park rules. In my opinion, they were very unfriendly to “outsiders”. Shortly after we set up camp I took my laptop to a nearby pavilion to access the wifi. As soon as I opened the case and turned on my computer I was attacked by three large dogs who came from a nearby trailer. I jumped up on a picnic table but the largest dog, a German Sheppard, came after me on the table, growling and snapping. Out of sheer fright I managed to leap up and grab onto the rafters of the pavilion, no easy task for a man of my age (67 yrs. old) The Sheppard was snapping at my heels, growling and barking loudly and I was scared out of my mind. About then the dogs owner showed up laughing. I screamed at him to call his dogs off, which he finally did. I refused to come down until he put his dogs in his trailer. I was shaking like a leaf when I finally came down and I let him have it with both barrels. I was so mad that I screamed in his face about what a irresponsible dog owner he was.

When I calmed down I returned to my RV to compose myself. I then went to the camp office to inform the owner about what had just happened. He did not appear to be overly concerned and said that “It won’t happen again”. One hour later I looked out of the rear window of my RV to see all three dogs roaming loose, and the dog owner nowhere in sight. The dogs roamed loose all day and evening while I was effectively a prisoner in my RV.

When we eventually calmed down enough to get to bed we kept hearing a loud, droning noise. It seems that they put us at a site across from the sewer pumping station. The pumps ran all night and kept us awake. The following morning we broke camp and confronted the owner. It soon became evident that he was not in charge. His wife was, and she was very nasty to us. Telling us that no one had ever complained about the noise from the pumping station. Nothing was said about the dog incident. She was very reluctant to refund our money, but after my wife got in her face she relented.

I would not recommend this RV park to anyone under any circumstances.

  1. If it’s such a great place why is everyone leaving?

  2. Owners very unfriendly. Rates to high and nothing to offer except excuses from the owners. Nothing to do there. Swim pond gross. Would never recommend.

  3. I was at KOA Homerville (Wildwood Lakes) last night. It’s a nice place if you want to relax. The kids were bored (ages 9 and 12). We went to bingo, but they couldn’t play until the last game. The playground is tiny. A couple swings, and a slide. Swimming pond-gross. No sand or beach, just grass along edge. Great showers and  bathrooms. The people are friendly. At 10:30 pm hardly anyone was outside. A few fires, but not like we’ve seen at other places. It is quiet time at 10:00 pm. No music. Way to early for people like me looking to have a fun weekend and let the kids run out their energy. I probably won’t camp their again, but if you are single or an older couple that enjoys boredom, check it out.

  4. I find this story hard to believe! Our families have camped at Wildwood over 30 years! About 25 families and friends have permanent campers there! Gated and safe camp grounds. Very clean and friendly! This truly is a ridiculous story! Check it out! Family oriented and great place to camp!

  5. I have been camping at this campgrounds for many years. It is the best family campground around. The person who posted the bad comment is crazy!!! The sewer plant is so far away from the sites that you could never hear it. This park has strict rules about keeping your dogs on leashes. You also cannot have vicious dog breeds in the park. You will be told if you do not. I would highly recommend this campground to anyone. The park is one of the cleanest we have ever been to. Why would you hang from the rafters?? Hello Cujo, lol. That is ridiculous!! Check this campground out. You will not regret it.

    • I would have to disagree. Most boring campground I’ve ever been to. Very poor customer service…do not speak nicely to their customers. Hidden Acres however is a great place to visit.

  6. I find that hard to beleave. I have been camping there for 11 years and have never had a probelm and you can’t judge a book by its cover.

  7. The dog owner was a weekend camper not a seasonal. He was approached about his dogs and was told they were to be on a leash at all times. I would strongly suggest that you not judge this campground by only a few people you meet in one day of camping.
