Badlands Interior Campground – Badlands, SD
Here’s a good reason to be flexible in your travel plans. As a base to visit Wall, South Dakota and the Badlands, we planned to stay at the National Park Campground. When we got there in early September it was over 100 degrees hot. We don’t have a generator and the National Park does not have electric. We would have had to live without a fan of any kind!
Just a mile south you’ll find the Interior Campground and Motel. The sites are level gravel with little or no shade just like the National Park. For four dollars more, you can have full hook-up. We would have preferred the view from the National Park, but the heat was intense. The motel, showers, and campground facilities are modest, but suitable. The owners and employees are relaxed and happy. Everybody from big rigs to motorcycles can be at home here. They even have a Tee Pee for rent!
I wouldn’t say that Interior Campground is a resort destination, but it is an excellent home-base for exploring the Badlands. The owners do not confine their dogs in any way, which seems to be a potential problem for other dog owners. Spend an evening in the lobby with the owners and their friends and you’ll feel right at home.
