Turtle Kraal RV Park – Alton, NH
Rather than staying at one of our favorite nearby campgrounds, we decided to try something different… a random Google search for new campgrounds in the area found Turtle Kraal RV Park in Alton, New Hampshire.
Built by the owners, Turtle Kraal opened in 2013. The gated-entrance campground is a large open area carved out of New Hampshire forest. There are 147 large, full hook-up sites… some of the largest sites we’ve seen, with plenty of room for slide outs, awnings and a screen house. Even the largest rigs will have no problems here. Very impressive. Each site includes septic, town water, and underground electric lines with 100 amp service.
Amenities are limited but include a new bathhouse and pool… very clean and well maintained. They also have boat and trailer storage and river access for kayaking and fishing. The park has a spring-fed three-acre pond and beach area with volleyball net and horseshoe pit. Turtle Kraal has free wi-fi too! The signal seems to be quite strong, distributed by a network of access points located throughout the park.
The campground owners and staff are accommodating, very friendly and made us feel at home. They offered suggestions on things to see and do in the area and how to get around. Turtle Krall RV Park is a new campground and a work in progress. Some camp sites do lack the “finishing touches”. This park is indeed a diamond in the rough. Some landscaping and a few more amenities (campstore?) and Turtle Kraal could be a 5-Star Resort. I’m sure you’ll find more amenities coming next year.
A walkable distance from the campground you’ll find several restaurants, a McDonald’s, a supermarket and gas stations. Turtle Kraal is located in the heart of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region and just a few minutes from Alton Bay and access to Lake Winnipesaukee.
Rates are reasonable… $43 a night, and yes… Turtle Kraal is pet-friendly.
