Tolt MacDonald Memorial County Park – Carnation, WA
Set along the Snoqualmie River, this King County Park is just south of the town of Carnation and within walking distance if your toad-less and don’t want to unhook. The ad said that it had 18 utility sites but we only counted 8. They were doing some restoration work so its possible the other sites were behind the orange fence. The sites are all pull through and very private. The host is in the first site and 8 is closer to the river.
Cost is $28 a night which might sound good, but doesn’t include a dump. The dump is located outside of the park and its private so they charge $8.+ , a little steep in my estimation.
The park has 2 wooden shelters, and 7 yurts for rent and the yurts are very nice, The shelters are just that, might keep you dry but thats about all. It is set on a very popular mountain bike trail and as we climbed, Ill bet a dozen bikes passed us. It was a steep hike but with the leaves changing color, it was beautiful.
Swimming in the river is allowed, as is fishing. The park is used by locals for baseball/football games and a large grassy area would be perfect for kite flying and if your a kid, just running wild.
The bridge over the river is strictly pedestrian and about half way over you can feel the wind. But the views are great and worth it.
