South Forty Camp Resort – Petersburg, VA

Formerly a KOA, South Forty Camp Resort is located about 1/2 mile east of Virginia Exit 41 on I-95. This is a good place for an overnight stop between Florida and the north country. The pull throughs sites are a little rough but they are away from the regular campground.

They have full hookups (including cable), a swimming pool, nature trails, fishing (no license required) , a playground, convenience store, game room, laundry, and free Wi-Fi. The facilities are clean and well maintained.

NINO’s restaurant is within easy walking distance and is open in the evening and has some great pizza and Italian food to die for.

South Forty KOA is a regular for us.

  1. This is our third time staying at South Forty and we have never been disappointed. The people at the desk are always so helpful and friendly and this time we ate at the little restaurant on site, “Nino’s.” The food was absolutely delicious and we relied on the young man who waited on us for recommendations. He didn’t steer us wrong. Everything we had was perfect and the prices were very reasonable. This will be a regular stop on our trips back and forth to Florida.

  2. For those who have stopped here in the past! Nino’s Italian restaurant is now open again! Same great food! Please spend a night with us and enjoy Nino’s Italian food!

  3. We’ve been stopping on our way to Florida and on our way home for 15 years . Its a great half way stop for us and always had a good night stay . We will be making our reservations again for next year .

  4. Just wanted everyone to know that South Forty is under new ownership. We are open and we have great plans to upgrade the camp to its full potential. Please stop in and give us a try. When you leave you will want to come back.

    • We are giving your campground a try on August 9th. My son graduated from the Military and we are hoping he will have fun that night before he goes to AIT training the next day. Cant wait!

  5. We stopped by a few weeks ago to look at the campground and talk with the office people. We were taking the grandkids, age 2, 3, 8, & 12 camping. The lady in the office talked great, said we didn’t need reservation this time of year, a great playground, hiking trail and pond for fishing. When we arrived with camper and grandkids in tow another lady was in the office. She said she had reservations and the only spot she could put us was #7. Well #7 was at the very back of the park, small spot for a 30′ camper, within 50 feet of the pond which was not a maintained pond but with weeds an grass growning around it and in it. Not a good spot for small children. They had other spots but she told me they were reserved and couldn’t put us in an empty one. Needless to say we demanded out money back and went to another park. I will never recommend this park to anyone to stay at.

  6. This is a great stop off the Interstate 95 right at Exit 41. They have a swimming pool, fishing pond with paddleboats and rowboats, and nature trails. We also went to the Petersburg National Battlefield (they have trails) with our Golden Retriever and she just loved it. About 15 minutes from the campground. They have a restaurant onsite that is completely remodeled and looks just lovely. It is called the Bear’s Den Restaurant and the food was great. We stayed in a cabin which worked out perfectly for us as we were traveling down to Florida. The staff was really friendly and the gentleman even helped us get situated in the cabin. We would definitely stay again!

  7. I stayed there a few weeks ago becasue of your advice- you were definitely right! It was a great stop, and I would recommend it to everyone!!

  8. This is one great stop off if you are traveling I-95. Nino’s sure is not fancy but is on the campground access road and has some great Italian food. Pull thru camping is rustic but quiet and adequate for overnight. We’ve never stayed in the campground proper but it is a reqular stop on our I-95 trips. Stop early if you want to eat a Nino’s. We always manage to find some fellow campers there. We have been motorhoming for 30 + years and are not great KOA fans but this is a great stopover.
