Mount Rushmore/Hill City KOA – Hill City, SD

Of all the campgrounds my family and I have visited, Mount Rushmore/Hill City KOA is the best! They have horse stables, a restaurant, 2 pools, a waterslide, an ice cream store, and plenty of wilderness to explore. Mount Rushmore is close by too.

My kids had a magical time and beg me to go back even though it’s nearly a 1700 mile drive each way.

My husband & I stayed at the Mt Rushmore/Hill City Koa based on the AAA book. It’s always a gamble as to where you will stay each night traveling across the country. The price was higher than the AAA book, which the staff at park said they don’t honor the book. We were stuck in a site so uneven that after using blocks, one wheel was off the ground and we were still not level. We were in nothing but dirt full of bugs and had a real hard time backing into it because it was very small and L-shaped. Should have been reserved for a tent site. We were charged $50.00 for only water and elec. and of course you can’t get any TV stations unless you pay more. That included a $5.00 resort fee which was also not in the book. We would have went somewhere else, but we arrived late in evening and didn’t know where else to go, as we were in the mountains.
