Red Apple Campground – Kennebunkport, ME
We recently returned from Maine after camping at several campgrounds. We switched from our originally booked one that was entirely in the forest and ripe with mosquitoes (Salty Acres near Goose Rocks Beach). We drove around for half a day checking out other campgrounds between Ogunquit and Biddeford and finally decided on Red Apple Campground. This campground was exceptionally clean and organized. It was very quiet as most people are in park models and were older than us. We were camping with our 9 month old daughter, so quiet was what we were looking for.
The owners were friendly and served free coffee every morning. The office/store offered free internet to anyone who wanted to surf and it seemed like a little meeting place for those looking for company.
The only drawback was the fact that there is no pool, but I was told by a seasonal park model resident that they don’t want a pool as it attracts families with kids, which means noise.
Despite this, there were many families with children at the campground. The playground was disassembled while we were there but our daughter was too young to enjoy it anyways. There are shuffle board courts and horseshoes.
There is one area devoted to tent trailers and another for tents and then the bulk are 5th wheels, big trailers, big rigs and park models.
The only trees are around the periphery and then maybe one per campsite, the bugs were almost non existent. The entire campground is well-manicured grass with a paved road around the outside.
It is conveniently located about 7 minutes from Kennebunkport and 7 minutes from Kennebunk. We were headed for Goose Rocks Beach – also only about 7 minutes away. Ogunquit, Wells and York are only 15 minutes away to the South and Old Orchard Beach is about 1/2 hour to the North.
We would recommend this campsite to anyone looking for clean, quiet and relaxing… which just happens to be Red Apple’s motto!!!
