Pecan Park RV Resort – Jacksonville, FL

2

Pecan Park RV Resort is located north of Jacksonville just west of I-95, exit 366 (Pecan Park Road). It’s the first RV Park on I-95 south of the Georgia-Florida border.

They cater mostly to large RV’s passing thru the area. They have 183 level concrete pull-through sites. All sites have full hookup including water, electricity, cable, sewer, and free wi-fi.

Their facilities are clean and well maintained. They have a small store, laundry facilities, a pool with a sun deck and a club house with full kitchen and barbeque grills. The campground is located next to the Pecan Park Flea & Farmer’s Market, North Florida’s largest flea market attraction (Open Sat & Sun from 8AM to 5PM). A few minutes away is Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (home of the NFL’s Jaguars), Jacksonville Zoo, Downtown Jacksonville and the University of Florida. World renowned championship golf courses are nearby as well as an Anheuser-Busch brewery.

Rates are reasonable, about $40 a night. They honor Good Sam, FMCA, AAA, CAA & AARP members too so you can get a discount. We’ve stayed here several times over the past few years and have never had a bad experience.

Pecan Park RV Resort makes a good overnight stopover or a base to Visit Jacksonville and the nearby attractions.

Barrington Shores Campground – Barrington, NH

Barrington Shores Campground - Barrington, NH

Barrington Shores is located about 3 miles off US Route 4, and about halfway between Concord and Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

When we first arrived here, we were a bit disappointed… trash dumpsters, dirt piles and maintenance equipment greeted us at the entrance area. But once we got over that initial disappointment, Barrington Shores grew on us. Check it was quick and the employees were extremely friendly and made us feel welcome. The campground property is located on Swain’s Lake and they have two very nice sandy beaches, lake fishing, boat, kayak, canoe and paddle boat rentals. The campground has open field sites, but mostly pine forest that slopes down towards the lake front. Interior gravel roads were a bit tight for a larger RV and a recent rainy week rutted some of them. It took a little time to back into our site… not much area to maneuver our 38′ Class A. The site did have a very nice sunset view of the lake.

The facilities, restrooms and laundry were clean, private and well maintained. They have a very nice, modern playground for younger kids and a better than average game room for older kids. Horseshoes, basketball, shuffleboard, wagon rides and some planned activities round out their amenities. We were impressed with their small but very nice camp store. They’ve got the basic essentials plus local crafts and gifts and even soft serve ice cream!

Pets are allowed here and the campground is very accommodating when it comes to them. Throughout the park you’ll find pet waste station receptacles and disposal bags. While there were many pets in the campground, owners were considerate and the park rules were always followed.

While we were there only a few days, this campground grew on us the longer we stayed. We are planning a return trip next summer.

McIntosh Lake RV Park – Townsend, GA

0

McIntosh Lake RV Park is located less than a mile west of I-95, exit 58 in Townsend, Georgia. We stayed here overnight on our way down to Florida. While the campground was close to I-95, we couldn’t really hear any traffic noise from our site.

The campground is located on a small spring fed lake. The sites are mostly shaded with pull-thrus and some sites right on the water. The interior road are dirt, and could use a little maintenance, but they were acceptable. This is a full hookup campground, with both 30 and 50 amp RV services, cable TV, and free Wi Fi internet access. They also have a new air-conditioned bathhouse and laundry facility, free fishing, and a small onsite restaurant. The facilities are clean and well maintained.

To say owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating, would be an understatement… they go above and beyond that and did everything to make our brief stay comfortable. This campground is a good overnight stop. I recommend it to all my fellow I-95 travelers. We will stay here again.

Brown Mountain Beach Resort – Lenoir, NC

0

I have visited Brown Mountain Beach several times. I found this to be one of the most tranquil places left on the east coast.

The facilites are very clean, and the staff is the best. The water is so clean in the river that you can drink it directly. I sat out in the middle of the river on some of the smooth flat rocks, and I have to say it was the most relaxing moment I have had in years. I have camped my entire life, and visited many places, but nothing quite compares to Brown Mountain Beach.

If you need even more quiet time, drive up the road a mile or so, and visit the trails. You will see what life was like before our modern time. Incredible! I found them at www.brownmountainbeach.com

Pacetti’s Marina and RV Park – St. Augustine, FL

1

Pacetti’s Marina and RV Park is a small, family owned campground located about 15 miles south of Jacksonville and about 9 miles from I-95, exit 323 (International Golf Parkway).

The marina offers docks, gasoline, wet and dry storage, bait, and a boat ramp. The campground provides hookups on shaded lots or waterfront sites. Also available are cabins, a Laundromat, showers, and storage. They have a small convenience store and a large pavilion. The interior roads are dirt throughout the property. The marina is located on Trout Creek, a tributary of the St. Johns River.

Rates are reasonable. $30 for 30/50 amp site, and $35 for a waterfront site.

It’s definitely an older “well established” campground that has seen better days. I wouldn’t consider this an RV resort by any stretch of the imagination. It does have that laid back southern fish camp atmosphere and charm, if that’s what you’re looking for.

River Plantation RV Park – Sevierville, TN

0

River Plantation RV Park is near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and located very convenient off the main road (US Route 441).

This is a beautiful campground. The facilities are clean and well maintained.  They have very nice showers, laundry, and pool. The people here are friendly and the operation is well run. It’s a great little organization. Shopping and attractions are very close by. Camping fees are reasonable and you can get a 10% discount if you are a Good Sam member.

I would give this campground a 5 out of 5.  We recommend this park and will surely return!

Cooperstown KOA – Cooperstown, NY

1

This is another very nice KOA campground located in a great hillside country setting about 8 miles north of Cooperstown NY.

The park is clean and well maintained. Interior roads are gravel. Sites are fairly level and most are in open areas with a few shade trees. This is a great campground for larger rigs because the sites are comfortably large.

Many folks come here to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, but there’s lots more to do around this quiet campground in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Camp here, and you’re just a couple miles from Lake Otsego, where you can rent boats and cast for bass. A Glimmerglass State Park trail leads to a grand overview of the lake and wooded hills.

The Leatherstocking Theatre and Glimmerglass Opera provide first-rate entertainment. Get a hands-on picture of farming in the mid-1800s at The Farmers Museum. You can still get a taste today, thanks to the Amish families who make their way to the campground by horse and buggy for Saturday bake sales in season. The pool, game room, banana bikes and hayrides also offer campers plenty to do. It all adds up to a full day, capped by a lovely sunset in the hills.

We’ve stayed here several times this year and plan on going back next summer!

Canandaigua/Rochester KOA – Farmington, NY

0

This KOA is a great family campground with plenty to do for the kids! It’s conveniently located about 5 miles from I-90, exit 44 (NY Thruway), it’s a nice location in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes Region.

The campground is clean and nicely maintained with lots of mowed lawn areas and a very nice lake. Interior roads are gravel in good condition and the sites are level. There are a good selection of sites ranging for everything from tents to RVs, although some of the sites are a bit small for big rigs.

This KOA offers plenty of amenities including a free stocked fishing pond, bike rentals, boat rentals, game room, mini golf, theme activity weekends, special programs -BINGO, campfires, wagon rides, FREE movie theater, cafe with breakfasts and dinners. Beautiful waterfront cabin rentals. Clubs and groups welcome to use their facilities. They have Wi-Fi and the coverage is good.

There’s plenty to see and in the Finger Lakes Region: horse races, Canandaigua Lake boat tours and swimming, Sonnenberg Gardens, wineries – tours, golf courses, Roseland Water Park, Granger Homestead, antiques and flea markets. City of Rochester only 20 minutes away.

The Canandaigua/Rochester KOA is an excellent campground to stay at for a week or so as you explore all the great attraction of New York’s Finger Lakes Region. We recommend it to all our friends!

Mountaindale RV Resort – Colorado Springs, CO

4

A few miles out of Colorado Springs is the most wonderful RV Park! It is called Mountaindale Cabins and RV Resort.

Being out of town, it is quiet and gorgeous. The deer come right between the RVs. The cottontail bunnies hop around your back door.

Other than the wildlife, this park offers internet access, laundry facilities, a playground & gameroom, a small store, and many other ammenities. The showers are unique. A bathroom… toilet, sink and shower … all in it’s own little private room. And there are eight of these private little rooms! And clean? Exceptionally! As a matter of fact, the whole park is very clean and well kept.

The family that owns & operates this camp are the most friendly and helpful people. Even Cherokee, the dog is friendly. And very “down to earth”. Good people.

This park is listed in the Trailer Life Directory and is a member of Good Sam.

Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park – Florence, OR

0

Carl Washburne State Park campground is one of our favorites. It has the wonderful hookups that Oregon is noted for and the location is terrific. It is only a few miles to the famous Haceta Head Lighthouse where you can take a tour or just enjoy the wonderful views. You can either drive to the Lighthouse or hike along the beach to it.

The park is located on the east side of Highway 101. The campsites are spacious. There are several trails of varying difficulty leading from the campsites to the beach, wildlife viewing areas, and second-growth forests.

A walking trail leads you under the highway to a five-mile sandy beach and a day-use area, where you’ll find space to watch whales, hunt agates, beachcomb, and picnic. Another trail connects you to the Heceta Head trail, which you can use to reach the historic Heceta Head lighthouse.

In the campground at night, you can hear the pounding surf. There is a creek running through the campground, and elk have been known to wander through. Wild rhododendrons bloom in spring.
