Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort – Hardeeville, SC

Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort | RVBuddy.com

We found a great new campground that we’ll be adding to our list of regular stops on our way to and from Florida. Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort is located just minutes off of Interstate 95 at Exit 8, “The Gateway to Hilton Head Island”.

When we arrived we were met by friendly staff and a quick check in. They even lead us to our site. Camp sites are level on dirt and stonedust. Sites have full hookups including cable tv and wi-fi. Each has a picnic table and fire ring. We had a pull through site that had plenty of room for our large motorhome. The entire property, bathrooms, and laundry facilities were clean and well maintained… everything was in perfect condition.

They have a very nice General Store with camping supplies, gifts, groceries and a CafĂ©. Their Lakeside Center includes a new swimming pool, pavilion, community fire pit, horseshoe pit, and a gas grill. They have a very nice dock with the covered roof and deck chairs where you can just sit and relax and enjoyed the view. It’s really a beautiful campground. Sergeant Jasper State Park, a 320 acre nature preserve, is right next door and has very nice hiking trails around the lake itself.

Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort is about 15 minutes from a large outlet mall and plenty of restaurants. Also, Savannah is not too far away.

Whippoorwill Lake Campground – Marble Hill, MO

Whippoorwill Lake Campground was a nice, clean place to stay. It is a privately owned facility that have very nice owners. The 12 acre lake was nice to swim in. They also have a big beach area, with a hard maple on one end to sit under if you’re trying to dodge the sun while watching the kids swim. You can also fish in the lake.

Rustic cabins, tent sites, and RV sites are available at this campground. The RV sites are spacious but are a little uneven in spots. The owner advised no outside wood could be brought in for the firepits. They did supply free firewood but it wasn’t very good. It burned quick and you had to pay for more firewood if needed.

Each RV site had a picnic table that could be moved around to your liking. That was great, since some places weren’t very level. The bathrooms were small but looked like they were being upgraded. Showers with hot water and flushable toilets were available.

RV sites were along one side, instead of being “around” the lake. Also, some of the tent sites are on a slope. There is a play area for kids which isn’t very big. They also have a nice open pavillion with a jukebox that would be fun for a gathering.

We enjoyed ourselves and would go back again for another stay, but are eager to try other places around Missouri.

Mascoma Lake Campground – Lebanon, NH

We have stayed at many, many campgrounds across the country. They have ranged from excellent to fair. Mascoma Lake Campground we have to rate as poor.

It is across a busy road from a beautiful lake, and there is lake access. It is within a very reasonble distance from a small city for shopping and restaurants. Those are the positives. The negatives are that the sites are very, very tight. The campground itself is quite rundown, and their are very few activities for children. There is only a small playground, and no other amenities. There is cable tv, but the cell phone service is very intermittent, and the wifi although advertised as “limited”, in reality doesn’t exist.

Everyone we had occassion to speak with, complained about the service. We never were able to get a wifi connection for our computer even when we took our computers to the office. I would not recommend staying at this campground except for a night’s stay on the way to somewhere else.

Turtle Kraal RV Park – Alton, NH

Rather than staying at one of our favorite nearby campgrounds, we decided to try something different… a random Google search for new campgrounds in the area found Turtle Kraal RV Park in Alton, New Hampshire.

Built by the owners, Turtle Kraal opened in 2013.  The gated-entrance campground is a large open area carved out of New Hampshire forest. There are 147 large, full hook-up sites… some of the largest sites we’ve seen, with plenty of room for slide outs, awnings and a screen house. Even the largest rigs will have no problems here. Very impressive. Each site includes septic, town water, and underground electric lines with 100 amp service.

Amenities are limited but include a new bathhouse and pool… very clean and well maintained. They also have boat and trailer storage and river access for kayaking and fishing. The park has a spring-fed three-acre pond and beach area with volleyball net and horseshoe pit. Turtle Kraal has free wi-fi too! The signal seems to be quite strong, distributed by a network of access points located throughout the park.

The campground owners and staff are accommodating, very friendly and made us feel at home. They offered suggestions on things to see and do in the area and how to get around. Turtle Krall RV Park is a new campground and a work in progress. Some camp sites do lack the “finishing touches”. This park is indeed a diamond in the rough. Some landscaping and a few more amenities (campstore?) and Turtle Kraal could be a 5-Star Resort. I’m sure you’ll find more amenities coming next year.

A walkable distance from the campground you’ll find several restaurants, a McDonald’s, a supermarket and gas stations. Turtle Kraal is located in the heart of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region and  just a few minutes from Alton Bay and access to Lake Winnipesaukee.

Rates are reasonable… $43 a night, and yes… Turtle Kraal is pet-friendly.

Mesa Verde RV Park – Mancos, CO

Mesa Verde RV Park is an awesome place. The campground is located right across from Mesa Verde National Park.

They are close to the town of Cortez and near some very beautiful scenic drives. We could see the mountains, it snowed and was even more beautiful to see. We camped in a fifth wheel and the sites are large, clean and level. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

The campground has nice bathrooms, 24/7 laundry facilities, 2 hot tubs and a heated pool, free wifi and is pet-friendly. They have a Good Sam 10-10-10 rating!

We camped here in April 2019 but I would guess that any other time you would need reservations at this great park.

Kissimmee/Orlando KOA – Kissimmee, FL

This KOA is located about 4 miles east of I-4 on US Route 192 in Kissimmee, Florida. It’s adjacent to a Sam’s Club and within walking distance of several restaurants.

The campground is quite small and as neat as a pin. All of the sites are a comfortable size and well-appointed. They also have “deluxe sites” for a higher rate. They have several “lodges” if you don’t own an RV. These lodges sleep up to six with all the amenities you need. The campground also has a playground, pool, spa, tiki hut, and pet friendly dog-walk areas. There’s also a new meeting room for groups or reunions.

The staff was friendly and helped us with directions to some of the attractions in the area. They had a “stay two nights get a third night free” special when we were there.

Pine Crest RV Park – Slidell, LA

We’re full-time campers and travel I-10 on a regular basis. We’ve stayed at many along I-10 and Pine Crest is one of the better ones.

It’s a beautiful park in a convenient location, less than a mile from I-10, exit 263. The staff is friendly and the rates are reasonable.

Pine Crest is very scenic, with lots of tall pine trees and a small fishing pond. The campground is very quiet. The park and it’s facilities are clean and well maintained. You’ll always see staff doing maintenance or patrolling the area.

We highly recommend Pine Crest for any RV camper, for a quick overnight stopover or a long term stay.

Wilderness Oaks RV Resort – Rockport, TX

Wilderness Oaks Resort has nice, with large concrete sites and beautiful oak trees. They have full hookups, a pool, WiFi, a clubhouse, laundry, etc. All clean. All well-maintained.

This is a great place to stay while exploring the Texas Gulf Coast and Corpus Christi areas. The campground is quiet with a nice staff and guests so you feel at home when you get “home”.

And it’s close to all the things you’d want to do! We recommend it!

Vero Beach Kamp – Sebastian, FL

We stayed at Vero Beach Kamp in October 2013. I will have to say we were pleasantly surprised with the campground.

They have made some major improvements in the look of the park since we were there last. It has become a beautiful campground. The showers and bathrooms were very clean… as was the pool. The staff treated us respectfully and was very friendly.

Kudos to those doing the work there… they seemed to work hard. We will definitely be going back.

Jamaica Beach RV Park – Galveston, TX

Jamaica Beach RV Park is an awesome campground!

The sites have tables, grass, and lots of room.  The grounds are spotless, and well manicured.  They have a couple of pools, and plenty of activities for all.  A short walk and you are on the gulf.  The bathrooms are super clean, they have enough toilets, and showers, so there is no wait.  I can’t say enough about how nice and helpful the staff is.  When we called, they were sold out of sites, but called us later that day when they had a cancellation.

We will be back on our next trip west.
