King’s Dominion Campground is located adjacent to Paramount’s King’s Dominion Theme Park and just off I-95 exit 98 in Doswell, Virginia. We stayed here for several days this past summer because it was close to King’s Dominion Theme Park. It was also our base for visiting the Williamsburg, Virginia area and Busch Gardens Theme Park.
Coming from I-95 the campground is just past the theme park entrance on your right. When you first enter the campground you’ll come to a large rustic-looking building where you can check in. The building also has a very nice convenience store with some groceries and camping supplies.
The campground has mostly paved roads and level, gravel sites. There are 230 sites, some of which are pull-thrus with 30-50 amp service. There are some nice shady spots too. They have a swimming pool, playground, volleyball court and laundry facilities. You can choose between primitive tent sites, large RV sites, group fields and cabins. The campground offers water, electric, and sewer hookups on RV sites. There is even a miniature golf course (for an additional fee).
The campground is located right next to the theme park, and there is a free shuttle that runs throughout the day between the park and campground. Season Passholders to Kings Dominion receive a 10% campground discount (except cabins). The same discount applies to the following: Military (active or retired), AAA, AARP, and Good Sam.
Not a whole lot of atmosphere here… it’s mostly a convenience for campers going to the theme park. It’s also a convenient stopover for RVers headed for points south. We’ve used it several times on the way down and back from Florida.
