Scandia RV Park – Bend, OR

I wanted to stay at the State Park, but it was booked! Scandia RV Park had one spot left (and I didn’t feel like staying in the high priced Crown Villa park).

The “permanents” and the “overnighters/short terms” are in separate sections, separated by a fence. The “overnights” are in the 300 section. The 300 section is nicer than the “perm” section. The “perm” section has the RV’s way too close together, pass the biscuits please. (If I could rate the sections separately, I’d give a “4” to the perm section and an “8” to the 300 section.) The 300 section has some grassy space between the RV’s. The driving loop is narrow, but passable. I crossed my fingers and hoped I made it through without hitting anyone’s toad.

Countryside Resort – Lebanon, TN

Countryside Resort is a very nice campground in Lebanon, about 25 miles from Nashville. We stayed here this past summer in our new 38′ motorhome and loved it.

The park is easy to get to because it’s fairly close to the Interstate highway (I-40), but there are woods that block any views and noise. The campground owners are friendly and helpful. The property and facilities were clean and well maintained. Individual sites were large with plenty of space in between. Interior roads were gravel.

Mountain Road RV Park – Tucumcari, NM

Mountain Road RV Park is a nice little overnite campground. It’s convenient to Interstate 40 (Exit 333) and the town of Tucumcari. The campground is a little dusty (but everything is around here) but it’s clean, quiet and well maintained.

The park has about 50 sites, mostly pull-thrus, and they can accommodate larger rigs. The staff was friendly and courteous during our stay. They don’t have much in the way of amenities at this campground but it’s a good place to stay when you’re on the way to someplace else.

Sands of Time Campground – Avon, NC

Sands of Time Campground - Avon, North Carolina Sands of Time Campground was recommended to us by a friend. The park is located in old Avon Village away from all the hustle and bustle of Hwy. 12. The sites are large with full hook ups (50amp service) & free cable TV. It is very quiet and clean and the campers are all repeats and its like one big family.

The park gave a fish fry pot luck and it was great! No pool or game room just a really nice park. The owners went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The campground is clean and well kept. We have already made our reservations for this fall.

Riverside State Park – Spokane, WA

If you arrive at Riverside State Park from the north, you will travel via Nine Mile Road. If you arrive from the south, you will travel via Government Way. Both routes are marked with enough signs to get you there. I used the Government Way route, and my initial reaction when entering the road to the State Park was, “you have got to be kidding.”

I had originally intended to go to Omak, but I passed Riverbend RV Park on the way and it was quite a find! Other parks in the area were booked full, so I was quite surprised that this park had a few spots open, to include spots right on the river! On a Friday night in August!

There were plenty of shade trees. It was quite peaceful, and just what I needed. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. I had space #9. It’s the best river spot, as there are no trees to obstruct your view. But the down side to space #9 is on weekends, people will walk in front of your RV to get to the river. Oh well. There is also a tent area in the back of the park, along the river. There is also a covered pavilion with a propane grill for group events. For families with children, there is a play area in the back of the park.

Check in was great, I got a personal escort to my sight. Normally you get that in more “extravagant” parks. I noted a sign that said “wireless available.” Guess what, it was FREE! A bonus, as I was not expecting ANY wireless service in this part of the state (valley surrounded by Cascade Mountains). The wireless is locked down with a code to prevent people not staying at the park from using it.

The rate I am showing is the rate for a river spot before Good Sam discounts. Twisp and Winthrop, which are both great “tourist” places, are close by. However, if you have only a bicycle for transportation, well, Highway 20 is pretty busy.

The women’s restroom was clean and acceptable. The park charges 75 cents for a 7 and a half minute shower. The laundry room close to my spot was small with three washers, two dryers, and a deep sink. Outside this laundry room there is a sink for cleaning fish. There is another, nicer, larger laundry room with a library at the back of the park. At $2 for wash and $1.50 for drying (45 minutes), the laundry prices were a bit steep.

The park does not have cable, but you can get the networks and PBS over the antenna. In reading the rules, this park charges a “guest charge”($5 per) for daytime guests, and they must leave by 10:00 PM. Not an issue for me as I was not expecting guests, but thought this should be mentioned. The park rules also state that you will be charged an “early check in” fee if you come before 2:00. I don’t know if this is enforced, as I noticed during my weekend stay that other RV’s came in before 2:00.

This park had some “park models” and mobile homes with permanent residents, but still had plenty of spots for overnighters. My cat had a medical emergency and the owners let me have “in and out ” privileges during my stay, as I don’t tow a car. Lastly, I do want to mention the wonderful vet in Twisp (Valley Veterinary), who came in on a Saturday to handle my cat’s medical emergency.

Bear Mountain RV Park – Trail, OR

We had a great time on our recent vacation in Trail, Oregon. We planned our trip to hike, fish and just enjoy nature. After booking the trip we discovered it coincided with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland… about a 45 minute drive away, so we took in a play as well. That was a great experience.

We’re fairly new to RVing and had heard some less than favorable things about lack of customer service and cleanliness of facilities at some parks. Not so at Bear Mountain RV Park. Several people live there all year long, which speaks to their satisfaction. Everything was as we expected from our initial conversation with staff. The park is well maintained and bathrooms are clean (a big plus for us).

Camping on the Gulf – Destin, FL

Camping on the Gulf - Destin, Florida We recently stayed at Camping on the Gulf Holiday Travel Park in Destin, Florida. The people that assisted us at the check-in process were very friendly and the process was fast. We were escorted by beach patrol, as there called, to our designated spot. Throughout the property there is a 4 1/2 MPH speed limit. I thought that was great, because the amount of kids that I saw I’m glad there thinking of the little guys.

Tree Farm Campground – Springfield, VT

Tree Farm is a small campground located just east of Springfield, in the southeastern portion of Vermont. The property is located in mostly mature white pine forest. The interior roads are gravel throughout the campground and the sites are quite large. The majority of sites are full-hookup and the price is reasonable ($26 a night). The facilities are rather old, but adequately maintained. They do have several pull-thru sites but navigating a larger class A through the campground may be a little challenging.

Champlain Adult Campground – Grand Isle, VT

This campground is terrible. No one should ever go there! Now, if you believe that, perhaps this fantastic place will never fill up and we can always get a spot here.

If you are coming from New York, take the ferry from Plattsburg. When you get off the ferry turn left and go down the road less than a mile and you have arrived.

There are about 60 or so sites ranging from full service (no cable) to tents. Some of the sites are right on the lake and others are only a few steps away. The campground roads are more than adequate. The sites are level and carpeted with a beautiful lawn. The restrooms and showers are clean, but small. The owner is one of the most helpful we’ve encountered. He will do almost anything to make your stay enjoyable.
