Rainbow Springs State Park – Dunnellon, FL

0

This park is FANTASTIC!!! This is the first tent camping experience I’ve had in Florida and I took a group of 18 other first time campers (ages 7-35). Everyone had a wonderful time. The Rainbow River was very refreshing and the 4 hour tube ride was VERY LONG but fun! If you choose to go, keep in mind that it may rain while your on the river.

If you choose to do something else, there is plenty to choose from. A Rainbow Spring beach area, fishing dock, heated outdoor pool, a rec room with puzzles, books, ping pong, fooz ball, and TV, a very reasonably priced gift and “oops I forgot” shop, and a GREAT staff. You can’t chop down wood there but you can buy a bundle of wood for about $8.00, or just bring your own. River Loop has shading on the camp sites, everywhere else is kind of in an open field. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen.

American Heritage Campground – Olympia, WA

American Heritage Campground - Olympia, WashingtonWow, I feel like I’m in a state park with lots of trees, can’t believe this is a privately owned campground. If you travel with a cat, the cat will be greatly entertained watching all the squirrels running around.

During the off season (Labor Day – Memorial Day), this campground is technically closed (no pool or showers), but they do allow self check-in as long as you are “fully contained.” I got lucky and one of the owners was doing some chores and she checked me in. The price I am showing is the price before discounts. The park doesn’t accept Good Sam but does take AAA Motor Club. If you use the discount, it’s cash only.

Sugar Ridge RV Village & Campground – Danville, VT

Sugar Ridge RV Village - Danville, VermontWe have stayed at Sugar Ridge for the last two years for a quick weekend getaway. We own a resort ourselves and like to take our small kids on at least 1 camping trip per year. We had learned of Sugar Ridge from one of our seasonal campers and we are so happy we have found it.

This campground is very nice. We booked 2 sites overlooking the playground as we and our friends that joined us have 4 kids ages 4 and under. We had a great weekend digging in the sand at the playground.

Hoquiam River RV Park – Hoquiam, WA

Hoquiam River RV Park - Hoquiam, WashingtonThe grounds and landscaping at Hoquiam River RV Park are so-so, but the office and clubhouse appear to be relatively new and just cute!!! The laundry and shower rooms were very clean! The clubhouse appears inviting, and people were playing games and watching TV in the clubhouse. The managers were very friendly and helpful.

Harborview Inn & RV Park – Garibaldi, OR

The best thing about Harborview Inn & RV Park is that you are just a few walking steps from the BEST fish and chips you have ever had (Fisherman’s Korner). Other than that, the next best thing is good cable TV, except at my spot, I had to use a double sided female connector to hook up the cable.

This RV park is by the harbor behind the motel in Garibaldi. It’s also right next to a Weyerhaeuser lumber plant. The word on the street from the “locals” is that this motel/RV park used to be a haven for “pharmaceuticals” but it had been cleaned up in the last couple of years. The best spots at this park are the ones with a harbor view. If you don’t get a harbor view spot, the rest of the park is just a big grass parking lot of RV’s. Most of the spots were “pull-in” but not “pull through.”

Pleasant Valley RV Park – Tillamook, OR

Pleasant Valley RV Park - Tillamook, OregonWow, you get a free bag of popcorn when you check in! Plus the very nice camp host gives you some brochures for things to do. This park is about 6 miles south of Tillamook off Highway 101 South. I was surprised at how full it was in September, but apparently this park is popular with the fishing crowd and for RV Rallies.

The RV sites are close together, as in, your picnic table is right next to your neighbor’s hookups. My slideout was a few inches from the neighbor’s awning. If you can overlook this issue, this is a great park to spend a couple days relaxing.

Rivers West RV Park – Myrtle Creek, OR

I was driving north on Interstate 5 and saw this delightful park along the South Umpqua River and just had to stop. This is a very reasonably priced place to just relax and do some quiet reading or just enjoy the river.

The park does not have cable or Wi-Fi. If you don’t carry a satellite, you might get 2-3 snowy channels if you play with your antenna. The rate is the rate before Good Sam, etc. discounts. This is one LOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG RV park. Why do I say that? Because the majority (about 80%) of the sites are along the river bank. If you like to walk, you will get your minimum required daily exercise walking from one end of the park to the other.

Wylie Park Campground – Aberdeen, SD

Wylie Park Campground - Aberdeen, South DakotaWylie Park Campground is a beautiful, 210-acre, municipally operated property located one mile north of the city of Aberdeen on U.S. Highway 281. The park caters to the citizens of Aberdeen as well as tourists.

There are tons of recreational opportunities here including camping, picnicking and playground areas, swimming beach, miniature golf, softball, volleyball, horseshoes and miles of rambling recreational trails throughout the park. The park also has special attractions such as Storybook Land, the Land of Oz and wildlife exhibits featuring deer, elk, buffalo and a variety of birds.

Bill Monroe’s Memorial Campground – Nashville, IN

Bill Monroe\'s Memorial Campground - Nashville, IndianaBill Monroe’s Memorial Campground is one of the friendliest parks we have been to in a long time! The host, the fulltimers & even the daytimers are welcoming and helpful. We felt right at home here.

The park is in a nice location in Bean Blossom about 6 miles from the city of Nashville and lots of great shopping. It’s worth a trip to the Nashville Opry while you’re there as well. It seems there’s most always Blue Grass pickin’ going on for free entertainment and a flea market alongside the campgrounds.

I recommend this campground to all my friends and we try to make it a regular stop every summer.

Jack’s Landing RV Resort – Bend, OR

The park’s official address is Morgan Lane. If your GPS tells you to turn on Hillcrest, pay attention and do it! Even though you will pass right through Morgan Lane. Making this error will cost you five minutes of having to go around the block. Secondly, once you see the La Quinta hotel, immediately ignore your GPS! Instead, keep going straight between the La Quinta and the Super 8 and you will be there. If you make the grievous error of obeying your GPS (and turning left before the La Quinta), it will cost you dearly! You will find yourself at a dead end on a slightly steep narrow road, and the only way out of this snafu is to drive backwards (about a third of a mile), to include backing around a sharp blind curve. This is a terrorizing experience if you are by yourself.
