Ferne Clyffe State Park – Goreville, IL

Campground and RV Park Reviews | RVBuddy

We recently stayed at Ferne Clyffe State Park. It was the first time camping with our new travel trailer.

We were happy to find level sites which made it great for first time RV owners. The area has beautiful scenery and great hiking trails.

The fee was $20.00 per night. We would definitely recommend this campground.

Mack’s Pines – Dover, AR

We arrived at Mack’s Pines after being on the road all day and battling traffic jams. The staff was very nice and very matter of fact.

There is a restaurant of such a small campground store. I was fine with all of that. Then we come to our site. The driveways are gravel and clay. Very rough. The sites are undeveloped. The site just barely fit our forty foot rig. Our jacks were up as high as they could go and tires were off the ground. Finally hubby fixed that but rig still feels rocky to me.

This unknown to us is a side by side ATV Park. This place is full of them. We are the only people here without one. We used passport America for one night.

I would not stay here again but the people who are here are having a blast. We will tell our friends who do have an ATV about Mack’s Pines RV Park.

NRA Whittington Center Campground – Raton, NM

NRA Whittington Center campground is very overpriced for what you receive.

Campsites are dirt/mud, not level, and many had bad ruts. It was difficult to level the trailer because the blocks sunk in the mud.

The WiFi is bad. We had an intermittent connection and only 1 bar when it did work.

We connected to the water after setting up and it didn’t work. We contacted the office and they would not make any change to site or price. They actually acted like it was our fault.

The only restrooms were in a separate loop over 1/2 a mile away. There were no picnic tables, fire rings or any amenities.

So, we ended up paying $35 for a 30 amp hook up and a dump site and a muddy place to park.

Jenny’s Creek Family Campground – Cleveland, GA

Jenny’s CreekFamily Campground was nice but the tent sites were small, not level, and did not have their own water and electric so you have to share the water and electric with the site next to you.

There were no grates provided for the fire rings. You could buy them at the campground store but they should have been provided or rentable. You could also buy wood at the store but they were sold in batches of 5 pieces for about as much as it would cost you to buy a bag full at the local Ingles but the Ingles bag would have about 4 or 5 times as much wood in it.

Our sites were directly across from the bathrooms (which was nice) but you would have to climb a steep hill to get to them. There were stairs but each step was at least a foot high so they weren’t easy to climb. There were only 2 lamps along the stairs that would light but they were solar powered so, not only were they barely lit but didn’t light for very long at all. As for the bathrooms themselves, you could tell the floors were rarely, if ever, swept/washed and neither hand soap nor paper towels for hand wiping were provided.

We complained to management about there being no grates, hand soap, paper towels and working lighting for the steps and were told that they were not a state park so they did not have to provide any of that and that if we didn’t like it, we could simply move on to another campground.

I do not recommend this campground to anyone because I feel that the management cares more about providing for themselves than providing the customer service that all customers desire and most definitely deserve.

Dakota Ridge RV Resort – Golden, CO

In my opinion Dakota Ridge RV Resort is a terrible place!

We Booked a pull through site six months and paid the deposit. They messed up our reservation and when we got here 25 minutes before checking in not only did they move us to a small 18 ft back in site for our 25 ft motorhome but also charged us $25. For early arrival. They admitted they screwed up but said if we didn’t want the inferior site we should leave!

I asked that they at least remove the $25 fee since now it was only 10 minutes before check in and the manager said NO! Later I spoke to people who are repeat customers and they were shocked. They said they never get charged for early arrival even though they come early all the time.

The campground is noisy being right off the highway, not very clean, and very crowded with campers on top of each other.

Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA – Cape Charles, VA

Cape Charles KOA | RVBuddy.com

Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA is probably the most under rated campground that we have stayed at this year! The facilities are immaculate, The sites are wide enough and sort of level, the hook ups are easy to access. All of the employees are nice and friendly. We will be back!!

Facilities
Everyone in our group noticed that the bath houses were always being serviced. Serviced as in cleaned, mopped and trash emptied. The beach front is clean and void of any sort of hazards. This KOA has a full service restaurant and bar on site and the staff are super helpful and the food was pretty good. I would give it a 4.8 stars out of 5. The pool is HUGE clean and built for families (max depth is 5-feet)

Sites
I am 41-feet long and I fit perfectly in our site. If I were 2-3 feet longer I would have to have backed in at more of an angle. It was wide enough for us to “live outside”. In regards to the level-ness of the sites they are ok and may require some modifications. Once I backed in I used my leveling system to let me know where I would need help (press the on button and the yellow arrows will let you know). I utilized my jack pads under the tires to get almost level, then emptied the air bags and then hit auto level and I was set. We saw a Super-C (super nice unit) that had the front wheels up on cinderblocks (I would be afraid of something slipping and breaking :-(.

Staff
Let’s face it you can have the best sites, with the best views, at the lowest prices but if the staff is a bunch of curmudgeons then you won’t go back. Our staff interactions from the time that we finished paying for our reservations (more on that below) until the time that we checked out have been very positive. It seems as if each employee enjoys working here.

Black Bear Campground – Florida, NY

We had two weeks planned at his park, but it is just awful. To start the sites are very un-level. My surge protector wouldn’t turn on because the power at our first site fluctuated. Also the water pressure was too low to hose things down. On top of that, the park uses no insecticides to control bugs in the park and we literally had millions of carpenter ants descend on our campsite and RV (we own a very unique and restored 1986 Airstream 345) It took me 8 hours to hose off the bugs, find some bug spray and move sites. No one from the park office helped me move or clear the insects, nor did they provide me with bug spay or anything to kill the bugs that may have gotten into the walls and components of my rig, never mind the ones covering my AC units and vents. We also had dozens of stink bugs we’ve had to deal with. A neighbor said she had had the same problems.

When I moved to a second site and kicked on the power ants came pouring out of the receptacles. After we got settled we had two trailers pull in next to us, one in the wrong direction so they’re facing each other. They are chain smokers with the smell wafting into our rig day and night. This morning I woke up to find they had hung a huge TRUMP: Make America Great Again flag in view of our site. Most parks allow only American flags, so I called down to the office and complained. I was essentially told that my opinion was political and the flag did not offend the mangers point of view. Then the lawn mowers started on Saturday at 9am and I had to ask the mowers stay away because rocks were kicking up, hitting my rig leaving small dings.

I’ve had to have Orkin come fumigate my rig, which means we have to get a hotel tonight. The manager of the park would not offer to have his people help us move sites or pay to eradicate the bugs from my rig. This is the worst Park we have ever been in. We are moving on early, so we don’t have to continue dealing with this.

Yellowstone Park KOA – West Yellowstone, MT

Yellowstone Park KOA is a BIG campground. we stayed here in late July which is, apparently, their busiest time of the year.

The BBQ was great! Try the ribs. The pool seemed a little over used, but that can happen when you have many people using it, and it’s the middle of summer. We stayed in a 30 ft 5th wheel in one of the deluxe sites. The cable TV reception was a little fuzzy. I just had to hit it with a wrench.

Our site was uneven, but the staff immediately fixed that by bringing me some boards. If i had to rate this campground on a scale of 1-10, I’d give them an 8.

Glendo Lakeside RV Park – Glendo, WY

On the road we had a sick dog and had to make many stops for him, so it took longer to get to Glendo Lakeside RV Park than we planned. We did not provide an arrival time nor were we told that there was any closing time the 2 times I called or on the website.

We arrived at the campground at 8:40 pm and as we pulled in a little white cart left the office… so we assumed that was just a resident. We went to the office like many other “after close arrivals” to look for our envelope to tell us where to go. There was nothing on the door but a sign that said ‘call and I will be right up’… so I did. No answer on the phone so I left a message and then went to look for my email to see if there was a spot number in it. Just then the little white cart whizzed back up. My happiness turned to shock quickly as I was told by this woman “I charged your card and had you as a no show… it’s 9:00 pm.” I was dumbfounded, I let her know that we had a sick dog and had to make lots of stops… her response “we expect people to be here by 6:00 pm, we close at 8:00pm.” I said I was sorry and that I didn’t see that anywhere on her website, her response “well, usually people call if they are going to be this late, it’s 9:00 pm! I will drive you to the only spot left”…  and that was the last thing she said to us.

We followed her to a nice big open gravel spot, and she pulled off without a word or a wave. The spot was easy to pull into; however once in position you can’t get put the passenger door because of the newly planted tree. We noticed that every site has a tree but most are close enough to be a nuisance.. a little more thought into the placement would have been smart.

The park roads are nice and open, all spots are big enough for big rigs, level, all are full hookups. The campground is close enough to the highway to be convenient but no road noise. $38 a night with a small shop, bar that serves pizza. We didn’t check out any of the facilities since we didn’t feel welcome.

It’s a nice place, Too bad it comes with a grumpy, rude host. If you choose to stay here just make sure to call by 5:00 pm if you are not there yet!

Endless Caverns RV Park – Newmarket, VA

Campground and RV Park Reviews | RVBuddy

Endless Caverns RV Park is 6 miles from I-81. Once you turn on Endless Caverns Rd. It’s what seems like a long drive thru farms and residential areas. The campground is at the very end of the road. It is a Peaceful, wooded, secluded setting.

Sites are long and wide, carved out of some hilly terrain, but fairly level. All roads are gravel and dusty. This might be a problem when the place is busy and there is lots of traffic. This is a large property with 3 sections of the campground. We were in C36 pull thru that was more than long enough, and had a nice spacing between adjacent sites.

We were glad to have an escort to our site, because the roads are not labeled. There are 2 bath houses, and I am glad we were self-contained. The women’s bathhouse in Section C left a lot to be desired. There was only one shower (of 2) that had a curtain. There was an air unit (heat?) in the wall, but the place was hot and had little ventilation. It looked clean, but not inviting.

There is a very pretty catch and release pond with seating around it, volleyball court, huge rec room with a projection screen for movies, a game room, nice wading type pool(maximum depth was 4’) and lots of roads and trails to explore on foot, bike or 4-wheeler.

If you are interested in touring the cavern, you can do that from the registration building at various times for $15./adults and $7. For kids. We were only here overnight, but it would be a nice place for a family to spend some time away from it all. Keep in mind that this Iis a remote location. The Park WiFi is spotty, there is NO TV reception, but my Verizon jet pack had a good signal.
